Tibet campaigners urge G8 leaders to address Tibet crisis

Tibet campaigners today called on leaders of the G8 countries to stand together in addressing the crisis in Tibet and lead the way on a new diplomatic initiative on Tibet. Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, USA, and UK are meeting at Lough Erne in Northern Ireland for the 39th Summit of the Group of Eight

Wangchen Dolma passes away, Self-immolation death toll rises to 102

Wangchen Dolma, the Tibetan nun who set herself on fire in protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet on June 11 in Tawu region of Kham, eastern Tibet has succumbed to her injuries. Family members of the deceased’s are being kept under house arrest by local Chinese authorities

Sikyong Sangay concludes maiden visit to Lithuania

Latest Tibetan self-immolator identified as nun Wangchen Dolma

The Tibetan nun who set herself on fire in protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet on June 11 in Tawu region of Kham, eastern Tibet has been identified as 31-year-old Wangchen Dolma. Although she is believed to have survived her fiery protest, there is no further information on her present condition

85,000 strong petition urges UNESCO to Save Lhasa

The Dalai Lama expresses doubt over effectiveness of self-immolations

Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed doubts over the effectiveness of the unprecedented wave of self-immolations in Tibet, while calling the fiery protests “very, very sad.” "It's a sad thing that happens. Of course it's very very sad. In the meantime, I express I doubt how much effect (there is) from such drastic actions,"

China sentences two Tibetan singers

In continuing crackdown on Tibetan intellectuals and artists, China has secretly sentenced two Tibetan singers to two years in prison for their songs about the ongoing self-immolation protests. Trinley and Chakdor were detained in July 2012 from Machu days after the release of their music album, “Agony of Unhealed Wounds.”

A Chinese court has sentenced a Tibetan student leader to four years in prison in connection with a major students’ protest that erupted in Rebkong region of eastern Tibet last year. Wangchuk Dorjee, a student of the Middle School of Nationalities in Malho was sentenced for allegedly leading the peaceful protest

Chinese diplomats threaten French journalist after Tibet report

Chinese diplomats have threatened and harassed a French journalist after he visited Tibet and secretly filmed a documentary which was broadcast last month on France 24. Cyril Payen was able to obtain a seven-day visa to Lhasa, Tibet’s ancient capital, which has been off limits to journalists since the 2008 uprisings against China’s rule.

Lone Tibetan marcher goes missing

After covering over 2000kms and reaching within a couple of day’s trek to the Tibetan border, Tsetan Dorjee, who was on his march to Tibet for the second time, has reportedly gone missing. It has been learned that Dorjee went missing from Gangtok, located just 54kms from the famous Nathu Pass

After serving 5 years, Tibetan political prisoner comes out in poor health

A Tibetan political prisoner has been released in poor health after serving his full five year prison term in eastern Tibet, during which he was subjected to brutal torture at the hands of Chinese authorities. Tsewang Dakpa, a monk at the Jangang Monastery in Drango region of eastern Tibet was released on June 5.

In reports just in, a Tibetan nun set herself on fire today in Tawu region of eastern Tibet in an apparent protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet. According to exile sources, the Tibetan nun set herself ablaze at around 5 pm (local time) in Tawu region of Kham.

China play's kung fu panda with Austria
